The Umbwe route is the steepest route in Mount Kilimanjaro. Meanwhile, The route is the shortest one and directs leads to the southern glaciers crossing the western breach, and in fact all the way to Uhuru Peak. It is essentially the exceedingly scenic and non-technical route on the mountain. However it is kinder predominantly pinching due to the crazy faster climb to higher altitude, however, the rewards are stupendous. This route is mostly steep and best for experienced climbers.

Tour Details

Day 1: From Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave

9.6KM | 6-8 HRS | MOORLAND

Elevation: 1651m to 2944m

Altitude gained: 1293m

From Arusha or Moshi the tour departs heading to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Our permits be issued while watching the in and out activities of operations as many crews prepare for the climbing ahead.

Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife found around the area. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery so gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended here.

The path leads to a ridge between two deep valleys up there and then crosses through the thicker Montane forest. The camping ground is basically between huge trees and thick undergrowth where you will enjoy your dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Umbwe Cave – Barranco Camp

4.75KM | 4-6HRS | MOORLAND

Elevation: 2944m to 3986m

5.2KM | 3-4HRS | ALPINE DESERT

Altitude gained: 48m

After waking up and having your breakfast, then the climb proceeds on a steep ridge up to the Barranco wall all the way to the Karanga Valley and the possible junction which connects with the trail of Mweka. This is particularly the most extensive day to see the strength, agility, and power of your crew as you see them finish over this challenging wall which appears to be easy. Dinner Overnight will be at Karanga Camp

Day 4: From Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

3.3KM | 3-4HRS | ALPINE DESERT

Elevation: 4034m to 4662m

Altitude gained: 628m

Moreover, The climbing continues toward Barafu Camp, and once you reach a camp you’re likely to have completed the insane South Circuit, which normally offers a  breathtaking view of the summit from different angles when up there. On this day essentially you enjoy an early dinner and are advised to quickly run to your tent and have a rest while preparing for a hard summit night. Dinner and overnight at Barafu Camp.

This is the particularly physically and mentally challenging part of the trek as the mysterious excitement pop essentially from within as you see the morning appears with an early start between midnight and 2 am.

Furthermore, The climb continues to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, always advised to try to stay warm and lie your mind on only the amazing sense of accomplishment ahead and nothing else.

The climb will continue essentially with on-and-off motion in a northwest direction and move up and ascend through a crazy scree towards Stella Point at the crater rim.

Moreover, During your short stay here you will basically be gifted with the most magnificent sunrise and also for a faster hikers may encounter a brilliant view of the sunrise from the peak. As there remains 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak from here, in fact, you are likely to be fascinated to encounter snow all the way.

Actually, With the supporting team, we applaud you that you have reached Uhuru Peak which is the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and undoubtedly the entire African continent.

After taking some beautiful photos at the summit and accomplishment celebrations, a few tears of joy are allowed if you will feel so, and then descend down to Mweka Camp will start. You will basically have to put a stop at Barafu camp for lunch and a very brief rest. Moreover, Gaiters and trekking poles are reasonably recommended for unsteady loose gravel and volcano ash terrain. Your last evening on the mountain will be at  Mweka Camp.
